There’s a difference between someone with DIY experience and a professional paint applicator. It takes knowledge, skills and experience to understand how to prepare and treat a range of surfaces in varying conditions, contexts and climates. Properly skilled applicators who understand how coatings must be applied add value to any trade team in that they extend the life expectancy of coatings on buildings. This in turn contributes to your bottom line through increased client satisfaction and trust in a job well done.
Which is why proper training is so critical to all applicators, contractors and architects in the building trade. The Plascon Professional team understands this intimately, which is why we are committed to up-skilling the industry through our training programmes.
Because we recognise that quality paint is only one component of the overall cost of a paint system, we are committed to providing you with additional support by providing product knowledge and tailored application training on the Plascon product range through the Plascon Paint Academy and other expert advisors in the paint industry.
Plascon’s training options for industry professionals are part of our vision to build long-term, integrity-based relationships with members of the trade. We offer training in all major metro areas. The Plascon Paint Academy offers both hands-on and theoretical training to all Plascon preferred and non-preferred applicators, specifiers, contractors and architects. Hands-on training happens largely on site.

The academy offers a variety of accredited courses aimed at equipping the trade with the necessary knowledge and skills relating to the application of Plascon products. There are also courses offered to supervisors and building maintenance managers of Plascon Corporate clients that are focused on increasing their general paint knowledge and equipping them with the problem-solving skills to address paint problems. Courses aimed at Plascon contractors may include their sub-contractors, or persons contracted from the community as part of a skills-based project, or as a pre-requisite for government contracts where Plascon is a supplier, either directly or indirectly.
Plascon training is conducted by qualified and registered Training Practitioners and Assessors who are well equipped to deliver training needs across an extensive range of training programmes. Courses are free of charge and are aligned to the relevant unit standards of SETA and CHIETA. The courses have verbal and observation assessments and offer a Certificate of Competence upon completion.
With high unemployment in SA, many sectors face the challenge of unskilled labour, including the construction industry. This has a major impact on the contractor’s quality of workmanship and cost of the project. As a leading paint manufacturer and distributor in South Africa, Plascon has a vested interest in the construction industry, one of the biggest sectors in the country, contributing approximately 9% to employment.
